On Wednesday, 16 June 2021, PT Jasa Angkasa Semesta Tbk (JAS Airport Services) handles its first pharmaceutical cargo of human vaccine through its new Cold Chain facilities at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.
JAS has recently added two Refrigerated Queue Lanes (RQL) and a 1,800 m3 Refrigerated Enclosed Area (REA) in its cargo warehouse cold room facility. It is the biggest of such refrigerated area in Indonesia airports. It is also the only air cargo warehouse with such facilities to support the cold chain integrity, for reliable handling of pharmaceutical and perishable cargo, such as human vaccine.
The pharmaceutical cargo recently handled was 16 boxes of human vaccine in four Unit Load Devices flown in from France, handled through Soekarno-Hatta, and were transported to an Indonesian pharmaceutical company based in Bandung, West Java. According to World Health Organization (WHO) ‘Cold Chain’ is a system of storage and transportation of products with specific recommended temperature controls, from the point of production to the point of use.
Currently, JAS has 11 cold storage facilities in both import and export warehouses, with controlled temperatures ranging from -2 OC to -25 OC (for freezer rooms), 2 OC to 8 OC (for chillers rooms) and 15 OC to 25 OC (for cold rooms). The utilization of this cold-chain cargo handling facility is expected to facilitate and ensure the integrity of temperature-sensitive cargo and products. These products, such as vaccine, need handling in controlled temperature environment, in order to comply with its quality assurance standards.
As part of the international cold chain process through Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta’s International Airport, JAS is working closely with the airport authorities and cargo community, committing its top-of-class services and facilities to reliably handle and preserve the integrity of such cargo, especially vaccines.
